And thank you so much for being a member of the Why Team - investing your valuable “life-time” to become more for yourself and others. Recently, I’ve had another empowering awakening that has lifted my experience of life to even higher ground. If you have been a member these past few years you have no doubt read of my daily practice of proclaiming and recognizing that today is my BEST DAY EVER!! We cannot live in yesterday and we cannot live in tomorrow - thus the day we are alive - today - is always better than the day we’re not. Today is literally our life-time, the time we are alive. And to take this another step further, let’s consider all the more Waking Up! Hello Why Team Weekly Member! This is a friendly reminder that the Why Team Weekly blog has moved to Substack. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well, encouraged, and open to living more open. Holding tightly to the status quo can reduce our ability to give and receive. Preoccupation with what we currently have, or how we are currently seen, can disconnect us from the many new opportunities life presents us. Jim Collins, author of "Good to Great" and "How the Mighty Fall", was once advised by one of his mentors that he would be well served to be more interested than interesting. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well, encouraged, and enjoying the cooler weather. Depending on where you live, you may have already noticed the leaves changing and the days getting shorter. We know the patterns of the seasons but… do we really know our patterns? How about this season, more than ever, - noticing our patterns of behavior? Hello Why Team Weekly Member! This is a friendly reminder that the Why Team Weekly blog has moved to Substack. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you growing and building your best life ever. Speaking of building, the other day I was passing by a residential neighborhood where a few new homes were being built. I had a minute to admire the craftsmanship of the carpenters working with the long beams and posts to frame the building that one day someone will decorate with love and call home. But, those big beams would be useless if it weren’t for the nails that holds them together. According to newhomesup.com, “there are 21,000 nails used to build a new-average sized home.” Dear Why Team Member, I often start my message to you with a hope: “ I hope this week’s message finds you well…” and this week is no different. We’ve been talking lately about how important it is for us to be grateful for every little thing or opportunity we are given, and Hope is one of those emotions in which we should be very Grateful. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well and living a remarkable life. My latest speech is simply titled: Live Your Best Life Ever. Why? To help inspire others to live their Best Life Ever. How? By being a living example for others. By embracing adventure and facing my fears - being a source of encouragement to my children and to all those whom I am blessed to connect and interact. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well and enjoying the last days of Summer. Soon, we will enter the Fall season. Can you see a reason for not making it your Best Fall Ever?! No matter the season or time of year, let me share a formula for your Best Time Ever: A + B = C Many years ago, renowned psychologist Dr. Albert Ellis repackaged ancient stoicism to give us a formula for living an outstanding life; a life that stands out from the crowd: A + B = C Adversity + Belief = Consequence Dear Why Team member, I hope this week's message finds you well and will be of encouragement to you. Recently, a friend of mine shared a story about her daughter when she was about 9 years old; they were volunteering for an organization who serves foster children. Up until then, their daughter knew nothing about foster care but, after she shared what fostering means, her daughter asked, Why are those children’s parents in bad situations? The sad truth for many of them is because most of those parents didn’t have a great childhood themselves and too few found the will and the power to change their circumstance. It takes great discipline to shift your mind to a growth mindset, especially when there seems to be little positivity around you. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well and open to contemplation. Recently, I heard a guru on Instagram share an insight that keeps arising in my consciousness - to serve me in a most powerful way. To paraphrase the Guru’s message, he reminds us to reflect on the fact that we were born with nothing, and we will leave with nothing. That there is no container for us to take anything with us when we die. Therefore, every-thing during our life is additive to no-thing. “Everything is Additive!” Dear Why Team member, I hope this week's message finds you well and based on the themes of the past two blogs, having enjoyed your gift of Today more fully. And if you’re happy with what you have today - let it go. Why? Because “It came to Pass". Dear Why Team Member, I hope this week's message finds you well and enjoying Summer. I have been very fortunate to share many laughs and memories with my children and dear sister this past week at our Kentucky cabin. My sister did an amazing job redecorating using many collectibles stored up in the garage: my Papaw’s fishing tools and rustic furniture I accumulated thorough-out the years. Having grown up in Alabama, I have an affinity for how Cracker Barrel Restaurants are decorated :-) thus my sisters talented efforts made a dream come true. Keeping with last week’s theme, gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate, I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate life, for Today when I get to remember all the great days that I spent at that cabin with many wonderful people including those who have helped mold me into who I am today. Dear Why Team member, I hope this finds you well and celebrating this week. I had mentioned to you the importance of having a gratitude list and the benefits of starting our mornings reading and adding to that list daily. Has gratitude for the opportunity to Celebrate made it on the list yet? It is important to celebrate successes and to be grateful for the opportunity to celebrate. Happy 4th of July! Dear Why Team Member, It's been just a few weeks since me and my two sons had the time of our life touring and seeing the sights in London and Paris. I am very fortunate to have many other moments and vacations I spent with my children where I can say I had the time of my life. Why can't every day be the time of our life? Why not make now, our Best moment, make today, the Best day, every moment, every day? How may we experience more the time of our lives? And why is it important we do so? At this writing, on June 3rd, I am on a flight home from Europe with my two boys. Today, I am 60 years old plus one day :-) and just finished watching the movie Creed III that has inspired me to write!! Dear Why Team Member, I hope this week’s message finds you well and enjoying Now. As my boys and I were recently on vacation growing our European history, knowledge and customs, it behooves me to stop and give thanks for simply being born in this country, in this era. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message will serve you, lift you and encourage you. At this writing, I am in London with my two sons, halfway through our vacation and feeling immensely grateful to be here and to have this time with my boys. We are filling our days with experiences and guided tours through history, learning and expanding our perspectives. Dear Why Team member, I hope this weeks message finds you well - reframing the pictures you don’t like. At this writing, I just finished a great session of training. Today was a 16 rep day - one more rep per set than asked of me by my trainer. Why Go the Extra Mile? Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message further fuels your efforts to become more. Recently, I had the pleasure to hear my good friend Dr. Kevin Elko speak. He is the one who 20 years ago inspired and encouraged me to become a professional speaker. He advised me on my first book, and I have had the pleasure of hearing him countless times over the years - receiving his tutelage as my informal mentor; he has profoundly impacted my life. Consider the value of mentors. Whom do you admire and why? Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message finds you well and encouraged ;-) At this writing, I am on a flight home from Wichita, KS because two great friends and respected colleagues had me out to speak here today and in Denver yesterday. Their venues were full of wonderful attendees who looked eager to hear a positive, encouraging message. I am pleased with the presentations and trust they were as they were supposed to be - BUT I’ve always had an inner voice that is particularly critical; demanding and expecting me to always be at my very best. Dear Why Team member, While both life and work can get overwhelming at times, hopefully this week's message will provide you a helpful perspective on life’s big lessons. I’m sure you’d agree that there’s nothing like a good story, a story that gets you fired up or comforts you and/or makes you laugh. For me, it all gets better when I hear the story multiple times; there’s always a nuance I initially missed that gives me deeper understanding. And some of the stories we’re most prone to tell involve us, our experiences or…our imagination. Dear Why Team member, I hope this week’s message encourages you to become all the more supportive and loving to You. Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a few days with my best friend of 47 years - to celebrate his 60th Birthday! His impact on my life is immeasurable. He’s like a brother to me - shared experiences forgotten by one are brought back to bear for the other - stories and memories that provide context as we continue to come to know ourselves - always insights for more learning - and just fun. Dear Why Team member, Wrapped nicely and tied with a bow or…not, who doesn’t like (pleasant) gifts? But have you ever considered that no other gift in your life can be appreciated if you are not alive and awake to appreciate it? How many people today are alive, but still sleeping, dreaming of a past and/or future, not present in the abundant here-and-now? Dear Why Team member, Just last week we talked about paying attention to the road we’re paving and how everyone is paving a road for themselves and for others with their actions. Have you had a chance to analyze in what direction your road leads? Why do so many of us look for a path, rather than make one? |
